Paragraph 12.6.7(d) of Chapter 12 of the Code of Practice (Nursing Homes)
RCHE (Nursing Homes) should apply physical restraints properly to ensure safety and comfort of residents with allowance for change of their positions. Physical restraints should be fixed and tied at the lateral sides of the bed frame, wheelchair or chair with armrest and a wide/secure base. The knots of restraint should be fixed at areas beyond reach of the residents as far as possible to prevent the residents from loosening the restraints. Fixing physical restraints on movable objects (e.g. movable bed rails) is strictly prohibited to avoid causing injuries to the residents when moving the objects.
